The encounter with rock as a moving mass is the starting point for this series of works by Erika Richter. The relationship between the individual and nature is processed here as a haptic experience and finds its expression in the depiction of eroded surfaces.

In this sense, erosion is not only a geological process of erosion, but also a mirror of self-perception and personal introspection. The dissolution of scale within the paintings enables the observation of a rigid element as an organic snapshot of a seemingly eternal process.

About Erika Richter

Erika Richter (born 1994 in Dresden, Germany) is a painter and visual artist whose work also extends into printmaking. A graduate and Meisterschülerin of the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden, she explores structures and transformations found in nature through both paint and print. Her etchings and aquatints complement her painterly approach, translating the same sensitivity to surface and tone into graphic form. Richter has exhibited widely across Germany, establishing herself as part of a younger generation of Dresden-based artists.

About Etching

Originating in medieval Europe, etching became one of the most important printmaking techniques of the old masters. Using acid to bite designs into metal plates, artists achieved remarkable detail and expression.
