Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Art
What is an original print – and what is it not?
An original print is a work of art created through a printmaking process such as etching, woodcut, or lithography. It is not a reproduction of an existing painting, but an independent artwork conceived specifically for the print medium. Each impression is made by pulling ink from a plate or matrix that the artist has worked on by hand. Original prints are hand-signed, numbered, and part of a limited edition – making them fundamentally different from art posters or giclée prints.
What does "limited edition" mean?
A limited edition means that only a fixed number of impressions of a work exist – for example 20 or 50. Each impression is numbered (e.g. 7/20) and hand-signed by the artist. Once the edition is sold out, no further impressions will ever be produced. This makes limited edition prints sought-after collector's items and contributes to their long-term value.
How much does an original print at FRIDAY BIRD cost?
Our works start at around €450 and go up into the four-figure range. Compared to paintings or sculptures, original prints are often one of the most accessible ways to buy original contemporary art.
What is the difference between printmaking techniques?
The main techniques in our programme: In etching, a metal plate is scratched with a needle and then bitten in acid. The result is fine, precise lines with a distinctive depth. In woodcut, the artist carves a motif into a wooden block. The surface is inked and pressed onto paper. Lithography is based on the principle that grease and water repel each other. The motif is drawn onto stone or plate with a greasy crayon or ink. Each technique has its own unmistakable aesthetic character.
Are original prints a worthwhile investment?
Certain original prints by established artists have historically maintained or increased their value over time. Since editions are strictly limited and no further impressions are produced, the value of a work can increase as the artist's reputation grows. That said, we recommend buying art primarily because it moves you. The financial aspect is a potential bonus, not a guarantee.
Buying & Advice
How do you guarantee the quality and authenticity of the artworks?
Every artwork is personally selected by us. For works we produce ourselves, we collaborate directly with the artists. These prints are made at the renowned Keystone Editions workshop in Berlin by Tamarind trained Master Printer Ulrich Kühle. They are signed by the artist and come with a certificate of authenticity. All other works come either directly from the artists or from trusted sources such as established galleries, allowing us to fully trace the provenance of each piece.
Can I see the artwork in person before buying?
Yes – FRIDAY BIRD has a showroom in Berlin-Tiergarten (Kluckstr. 23 A, 10785 Berlin). Visits are warmly welcome by appointment. Just write to us at hello@fridaybird.com and we'll find a time that works.
Do you offer art advisory services?
Unsure which work is right for you? Can't decide what would look best in your home? We're happy to help – whether that's providing additional photos, sharing more context about an artist, or helping you visualise how a work would look in your space. Just get in touch at hello@fridaybird.com.
I would like to start an art collection. Where do I begin?
Many experienced collectors started with a print rather than a painting. One of the great things about original prints is that you can start without a large budget. Our advice: buy what genuinely moves you, not what sounds prestigious. Explore the different techniques, visit our exhibitions, and talk to us. We're happy to guide you from your very first purchase through to a growing collection.
I'm looking for a special gift – can you help?
Original prints make a memorable and personal gift for milestone occasions like birthdays, weddings, or housewarmings. We are happy to advise on finding the right work for someone's taste. We also offer a gift voucher which is a great option if you are unsure about which work would fit best.
Shipping & Practicalities
How are artworks shipped?
Unframed works are shipped as insured packages via DHL or a specialist courier within 7 working days of your order. Shipping within Germany costs €11.90 for works under €500 and €19.90 for works over €500. Within the EU, shipping costs €21.90 for works under €500 and €29.90 for works over €500.
For framed works, delivery typically takes 2–3 weeks depending on framer availability. Framing shipping costs €34.90 within Germany and €59.90 within the EU.
Worldwide shipping is currently available on request only.
Do you offer framing?
Yes. For every print, we offer a high-quality standard frame with museum glass, which you can select directly in the shop. If you'd prefer a different frame color or a specific frame quality, we're happy to advise – just get in touch at hello@fridaybird.com. Please note that framed works have a longer delivery time.
What do I need to know to care for my original print?
Original prints on paper are durable, but a little care goes a long way. Keep your work away from direct sunlight and high humidity, as both can cause fading and paper damage over time. We recommend framing with museum glass, which filters UV light and offers the best protection – this is why we use it as our standard. Avoid hanging prints above radiators or in bathrooms. If you ever need to store a work unframed, keep it flat in an acid-free folder or portfolio.
For Businesses
I would like to furnish my office, hotel, or restaurant with art – can you help?

We don't just help with selecting works – we also advise on hanging, framing, and how art can shape the atmosphere of a space. Whether you have a single room in mind or need a curatorial concept for an entire building, we'd love to hear about your project. Get in touch at hello@fridaybird.com.
