Why collect original prints?
Original prints occupy a unique place in the art world. Unlike posters or reproductions, they are original artworks created through traditional printmaking techniques such as etching, woodcut, lithography, or linocut. Each print is produced by hand from a matrix prepared by the artist and released in a strictly limited edition.
For collectors, original prints offer artistic quality, craftsmanship, and accessibility. They make it possible to acquire works by established and emerging artists at a fraction of the cost of many paintings or sculptures, while still owning an authentic, signed artwork.
At FRIDAY BIRD, we focus exclusively on original prints and works on paper. You can find us online or in our Berlin showroom.
Highlights
FRIDAY BIRD
Linocut by Elizabeth Peyton
Elizabeth Peyton’s portrait of Frederick Douglass conveys his strength and presence, showcasing her expressive linocut style. The work reflects Peyton’s ongoing interest in influential historical figures and how their legacies shape culture and identity.

Etchings by Arturo Herrera
Printmaking plays a central role in Arturo Herrera’s practice. Working with techniques such as photogravure, aquatint, etching, and screenprinting, he uses print processes not to reproduce images but to transform them.

Traditional Printmaking Techniques
Printmaking is one of the oldest and most fascinating artistic disciplines. Each technique is defined by its own visual language, material qualities, and history.
Whether in woodcut, etching, lithography or linocut, printmaking encompasses a remarkable range of artistic possibilities. The character of a print is shaped not only by the technique, but also by the artist’s individual approach, the materials used, and the printing process. These techniques require patience, technical mastery, and often close collaboration between artist and printer.
