Cathrin Hoffmann's first woodcut, extends her exploration of material and process into the medium of printmaking, translating her visual language into a new, tactile form. A seated figure fills the entire pictorial space, as if the edges of the image were restricting its freedom of movement. The connections between the figure’s individual parts can sometimes only be guessed at, maybe hidden by shadows.

Wooden picture frame corner on a white background, natural oak slat

About the Frame

Oak is a classic choice for a frame, as it enhances a piece of art without overwhelming it. The wood is protected only by a clear, natural-finish varnish, so its natural color remains unchanged.

We collaborate with a trusted manufacturer who crafts our frames using real wood veneer. This approach preserves the authentic character and texture of the wood while ensuring sustainable use of high-quality materials. Each frame is designed as a distance frame, keeping the glass slightly away from the artwork for both aesthetic and conservation reasons. We use museum glass for superior protection and clarity, maintaining the artwork’s true colors and fine details. For aesthetic reasons, our artworks are typically framed without a mat, creating a clean, contemporary presentation. With a slim 13 mm profile, the frame enhances the artwork’s presence without overpowering it.

About Cathrin Hoffmann

Cathrin Hoffmann is a German-Iranian artist based in Berlin whose work explores the conditions of human existence in the post-digital age. Through abstract, often distorted figures, she reflects on themes such as alienation, technological acceleration, and the fragile future of humanity. By combining digital aesthetics with tactile materials, her practice creates a striking tension between virtuality and physical presence.

About Woodcut

One of the oldest printmaking methods, woodcut has been used for centuries to create bold, graphic imagery. Woodcut is a relief printmaking technique in which artists carve an image into a wooden block, leaving raised areas to receive ink. Prints made from the block reveal bold lines, textures, and contrasts.
